Jnanappana, meaning "Chalice of Knowledge", is Poonthanam's celebrated work of poetry in Malayalam, rich in philosophy of birth, life, death and that awaits the soul back of beyond. This is considered to be a masterpiece among Malayalam scriptures with lot we should know in our pursuit to our ultimate bliss and dos and don'ts for escaping from the perennial sorrow and tension man undergoes in this world due to repeated births hither and the consequential bonds binding us to this mundane life. It is not devotional or didactic poetry, instead a repository of Hindu philosophy of life, wealth, death and re-incarnation
